Command palette

One box to open any page, find a conversation, customer, document or signal, run an action, or ask the assistant.

Open it

How Where
⌘ K on Mac, Ctrl K elsewhere Anywhere in the app. The same keys close it
Search Top of the sidebar
Search button The header, on small screens

The box reads Type a command or search.

Browse

With the box empty, the palette lists five groups, then Message the assistant at the bottom.

Group Rows
Go to Every sidebar entry, then the pages inside a section, named like Settings · Billing or Agent · Tools. Pages your role cannot open are left out
Actions Reach out to a customer, New document, Add knowledge source, Documentation, Share feedback
Theme Light theme, Dark theme, System theme. A check marks the current one
Organization One Switch to row per other organization you belong to, such as Switch to Acme, then New organization
Account Manage account, Sign out

Reach out to a customer opens the same dialog as on Customers. Documentation opens this site in a new tab. Switch to changes organization in place. New organization opens Create an organization, described on the Overview.

Type to filter the commands and search your organization. Results update when you pause typing.

Group Matches Opens Rows
Commands Command labels, plus extra words. home finds Dashboard, bugs finds Signal, invite finds Settings · Members Runs the command Up to 8
Conversations Subjects and thread ids. Each row shows its thread id The conversation Up to 5. Up to 6 when a thread id matches
Customers Names and email addresses The customer’s profile Up to 5
Knowledge Document titles The document Up to 5
Signals Titles, descriptions, and the titles of reports merged into a signal The signal Up to 5

When Conversations, Customers, Knowledge or Signals has two or more rows, AI reorders them by relevance. This uses credits. If it fails or takes longer than 1.5 seconds, results keep the search order. Customers keeps the search order for a customer number or email search, and Conversations keeps it when a thread id matches. See Plans.

With nothing found, the palette says No results. If the search itself fails, it says “Search is unavailable. Try again.”

Search syntax

Type Finds Examples
A letter, an optional dash, and a number The conversation with that thread id, listed first W-12, w-12, W12
A digit, a dash, and a number The same, for an organization whose name starts with a digit 4-7
# and a number The customer with that number #12
customer and a number The same customer 12, customer #12
An email address with no spaces The customer with exactly that address ana@example.com
  • The letter has to match your organization’s thread ids. In an organization whose ids start with W, C-12 finds nothing by id.
  • Bare digits such as 12 are an ordinary search.
  • When the search is # and a number, starts with customer and a space, or contains @, Customers moves above Conversations.
  • Thread ids are explained on Inbox.

What Enter does

Enter runs the highlighted row. Arrow keys move the highlight, and it wraps around.

You typed Highlighted row
Nothing The first command
A question or a request Ask the assistant, moved to the top
Anything else The first matching command, else the first search result, else Ask the assistant

Text counts as a question or a request when any of these is true.

  • It ends in ?.
  • Its first word is who, what, when, where, why, how, can, could, should, would, is, are, do, does, did, will, may, might, please, tell, explain or ask.
  • It contains ask, assistant, ai, help me, can you, could you or would you.
  • It has four or more words.
  • It has two or more words and starts with help, know, tell, show, explain or find.

For a question, only commands whose label matched stay in the list. So knowledge still opens Knowledge, and how do I add a key goes to the assistant.

Ask the assistant

Row Does
Ask the assistant Sends what you typed
Message the assistant Opens an empty ask box. Type, then press Enter

In ask mode the box reads Ask Median anything. The answer appears in the palette. Once it lands, the box reads Ask a follow-up.

  • Every question starts an ordinary chat, listed in Chats. See Assistant.
  • The box locks while the assistant works or waits on you.
  • If the assistant needs you to fill in a form, the palette closes and the chat opens on its own page.
  • Before you send, Esc, or Backspace in an empty box, goes back to commands. After you send, Esc closes the palette. The chat carries on.

The assistant needs a paid plan. Without one, the rows read Ask the assistant · Paid plan and Message the assistant · Paid plan, and sending shows “AI assistance is available on Standard and Pro.” See Plans.

Decide a waiting call

Some of the assistant’s calls wait for your approval. The palette shows what the call would do, then two rows.

Row Key Does
Approve and run Y Runs the call
Deny N Cancels it. The assistant is told and answers you
  • The highlight starts on Approve and run. Enter takes whichever row is highlighted.
  • Y and N work wherever the highlight is.
  • Several waiting calls come one at a time, with a counter such as 1 of 3.
  • A decided call stays in the thread as one line, with its result or Denied.

Which calls wait is listed on Assistant.
